But Y'all Don't Hear Me....

It's been quite some time since made an entry into my blog. To be honest I just wasn't feeling it. I had nothing really creative to say and the only things I could think of were negative or thoughts revolving around the faux news from that mess we call the media (I'm talking about you Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC) regarding the election. Instead of just talking to be heard or to hear myself, I decided to be prudent and not say anything until I felt I had anything of value to put out there.

These days who knows how I will proceed.  My blog may see entries become more irregular as I start to take on this mentality of speaking only when I feel my words have value to anyone, and even if they don't, atleast I did it on my time and when I was ready. So on that note, I don't have some long entry to publish today full of diatribes, only a peom which expresses how I feel for the moment. How I feel about myself, my life, the world and how I see it. If you like it and it speaks to you then great, and if not, I'm good with that as well. The title of the poem happens to be the title of this post, so here we go:

They told me if I worked hard, it would be recognized

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told I have so much potential and color would be no differential

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told to do good and good would come to me

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told nothing good in life, ever came free

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told to keep my eye, on the prize

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told not to sweat the small stuff, because the sun would always rise

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told that being educated, would make a difference

But y'all don't hear me though

That education would lead to a big house, and white picket fence

But y'all don't hear me though

I was told success would follow if I simply applied myself

But y'all don't hear me though

But all the jobs are so low paying, that I clock in everyday angry and beside myself

But y'all don't hear me though

Even though I didn't trust the system, you begged me to vote

But y'all don't hear me though

I sit back and watch as they disregard every freedom, for me, that their fore fathers wrote

But y'all don't hear me though

I spoke up, and asked for better treatment

But y'all don't hear me though

And all I got in return was brutality and more resentment

But y'all don't hear me though

So then we began to burn up our own neighborhoods and cities

But y'all don't hear me though

And watch as my peers are gunned down with little to no pity

But y'all don't hear me though

We watched, as you left us to vote for the lesser of two evils

But y'all don't hear me though

Neither one of them ever cared about the people

But y'all don't hear me though

And now your system is crumbling behind greed, racism, lies and nepotism

But y'all don't hear me though

Soon most of you will see what it's like, to not be able to get ahead and be held down

I bet you hear me now....

P.S.  I'm not a poet and never claimed to be,

so if you aren't digging the structure, that's all good too! Y'all be easy and have a good night.
